PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Shelley practices as a sole proprietor in the offices of Logica Law and restricts her practice to wills, estates and trust law as well as elder law. She has practiced in these areas since being called to the British Columbia Bar in 1984. She obtained her BA and her LLB at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Besides practicing law at the former firms of Melville and Company, Landmark Law Group and as a sole proprietor in the offices of Kerr Redekop Leinburd Boswell in Vancouver. Shelley has been in house counsel at CIBC Trust and in the trust department at the Loewen Group Inc. She has also spent a year working for Vancouver Community Legal Assistance Society as the Mental Patient’s Advocate at Riverview Hospital. Shelley was a regular columnist covering section activities for the B.C. Branch of the Canadian Bar Association in the Advocate and in the Bar Talk magazine for 20 years.
Shelley is a former chair of the Wills and Trusts Subsection (Vancouver) of the B.C. Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and is recognized as among the most prolific contributors to the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia (“CLE”), B.C.’s main continuing education institution for lawyers. She has been an instructor for workshops for lawyers in Wills Drafting, and Estate Administration, a speaker on wills, estates and trusts issues in Advanced Family Law Issues, a speaker in “Out of the Ordinary Problems in Ordinary Estates”, a course co-chair for the courses “Planning Considerations for Blended Families”. Shelley is also the author of chapters on Wills, Estates, Trusts and Adult Guardianship Law in the Annual Review of Law and Practice published by the CLE and a co-author of updates for the B.C. Law Society’s Practice Checklists in the wills area and also updates for CLE’s B.C. Probate Practice Manual.
PERSONAL
When not practicing law Shelley enjoys hiking with her spouse and 2 black Labrador Retrievers, downhill skiing and pursuing her passion for art by painting and printmaking in her home studio. Shelley Bentley is an independent lawyer and sole practitioner at the offices of Logica Law.
